Near Modena you can visit Spilamberto, a beautiful village located on the Strada dei Castelli, the 'Road of Castles'. On the way to Bologna you can pass through Castelfranco Emilia, an important agri-industrial town, and San Cesario sul Panaro, a medieval village with a city park containing ancient plants. Nearby you can also visit Carpi, and elegant town that still preserves its Renaissance city plan and buildings.
Modena also offers mountain vacations and ski resorts in the Apennines at Sestola, Pavullo nel Frignano, Frassinoro and Fiumalbo. There are many national parks and natural reserves of great interest to visit and enjoy. In particular, in Fiorano, on the slopes of the Apennines, is the 'Salse di Nirano' reserve which has natural discharges of salt mud and cold, muddy waters from the clay soil.
